Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "SMITH & DAY / NORWALK", CT origin, circa 1843-1847, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed cobalt-slip "3" flanked by two highly-stylized floral motifs. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced NC collection, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Excellent condition with a small base chip.
