Two-Gallon Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, probably Crolius Family, circa 1800, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed daisy motif, including spots to the petals and center. Spotted cobalt drape decoration under each handle and brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. A 1 3/8"filled surface flake on one side. A 1/2" filled surface flake on opposite side. Several filled rim chips and a small, unfilled rim chip. Several filled base chips. A 4 1/4" crack from rim. Some faint surface crazing to bottom half of jar, not visible on interior. An in-the-firing line on interior of rim, not visible on exterior.
