One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Butter Crock with Lid, Stamped "R.C.R. / PHILA.", Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1875, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder and ribbed lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed swag motif. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals along with a curving line of cobalt underneath each handle. Impressed under one handle, "R.C.R. / PHILA.". Paired with a loosely-fitting lid with brushed swag decoration, probably Remmey, Philadelphia, PA. A restored crack from rim, extending onto underside. Additional tight cracks throughout underside. One handle restored. Two small rim chips. Lid with restored knob and minor wear.
