Scarce Copper-Glazed Redware Bird Whistle Bank, Pennsylvania origin, circa 1840-1880, wheel-thrown form with pedestal base, whistle-form tail, and applied head with incised crest and pierced eyes, the bird's back with carved coin slot. Surface covered in a colorful copper glaze, lighter on the head and breast, and darker on the body. Provenance: A recently-surfaced example, consigned from Illinois. Restoration to tip of bird's beak. Expected small chips to whistle. One minuscule base nick. H 3 1/8" ; L 4 1/2".
