One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "A,J, BUTTLER, / MANUFACTERUR(sic) / NEW-BRUNSWICK, N.J.", circa 1860, ovoid pitcher with footed base and tooling to midsection, collar, and rim, the front decorated with two tulips flanking the misspelled, cobalt-highlighted maker's mark of A.J. Buttler. Decorated above with a freehand cobalt "1", the spout with stylized tulip blossom decoration. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a forty-five year private collection. Excellent condition with a faint surface line to spout, not visible on interior.
