Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Incised Foliate Decoration, Stamped "J REMMEY / MANHATTAN-WELLS / NEW-YORK", early 19th century, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, footed base, and open loop handles, the front featuring the large impressed maker's mark of John Remmey III. Reverse with stylized incised foliate motif. Maker's mark, incised decoration, and handle terminals, highlighted in a colorful purplish-blue slip composed of cobalt mixed with iron or manganese. Exceptional color and condition. Excellent condition with a small rim chip, a small chip and two minuscule nicks to base, and a smooth in-the-firing contact mark below maker's mark.
