Scarce Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pitcher, Stamped "C. CROLIUS / MANUFACTURER / NEW-YORK", Clarkson Crolius, Sr., Manhattan, NY, circa 1815, ovoid pitcher with footed base, tapered collar, and tooling to shoulder and rim, the front featuring the large impressed maker's mark of Clarkson Crolius, Sr., surrounded by cobalt dashes. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A difficult-to-find form by this important Manhattan maker. Essentially as-made condition with a 3 3/4" x 3 1/4" area of kiln residue adhered to one side.
