Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Bird Motif, Stenciled "HAMILTON & JONES. / GREENSBORO. PA", circa 1875, ovoid jar with semi-rounded rim, the front decorated with a finely-stenciled design of a bird surrounded by small flower and flourishes along with the stenciled maker's mark, "HAMILTON & JONES. / GREENSBORO. PA.". Freehand straight and wavy stripe decoration to shoulder and base. Base with stenciled "2" flanked by flourishes. Provenance: From an over forty-year private collection. A hairline extending across underside and 6" up left side of jar. Some water glass staining to interior.
