Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Jackson Courthouse, WV Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1880, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and rounded wax sealer rim, the front featuring the elaborate stenciled advertising "A.M. CARSON & CO. / DEALERS IN GEN. / MERCHAN' / BUTTER, EGGS & POULTRY. / SPECIALTIES. / JACKSON COURTHOUSE. / W. VA". Freehand cobalt stripe decoration to shoulder and base. Highly-appealing and unusual "POULTRY SPECIALTIES" advertising and desirable West Virginia town name. Excellent condition with a few minor nicks to inner canning jar rim and some light traces of old paint. H 9 3/4".
