Scarce Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Proctor, WV Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, tapered jar with rounded "wax sealer" rim, featuring the stenciled advertising, "M. & A.J. MOORE. / GENERAL / STORE. / PROCTOR. / WETZEL CO. / W. VA." Freehand straight and wavy stripe decoration above and below. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a twenty-year private collection. An approximately 2 1/2" Y-shaped line from rim on left side of jar's front. Some shallow chipping to interior of rim. A faint 2" line on underside, not visible on interior. H 10".
