Fine Five-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "HAMILTON / Greensboro / PA", circa 1860, cylindrical jar with combed midsection, tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and ribbed lug handles, decorated with a large sweeping vine bearing tulip blossoms and graduated swags. Base with large freehand "5" flanked by stripes. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Excellent decoration, color, maker, and size. A long crack on underside, continuing a few inches up base and extending horizontally. A stone ping to interior of rim.
