One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Grapes Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG. PA", circa 1865, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and flattened rim, decorated with a cluster of eight grapes hanging from a leafy vine. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor approximately forty years ago. A few small chips to interior of rim. An approximately 4 3/4" network of tight surface lines to side of jar, not visible on interior.
