Very Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "WILLSON'S & YOUNG / HARRISBURG PA", circa 1855, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a brushed floral design featuring two tulips emanating from a leafy stem. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. A desirable, short-lived maker's mark from Harrisburg's early years of stoneware production. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, which recently surfaced in the Mid-Atlantic. Very nice condition with a 1 1/2" hairline from rim on reverse, a minor glazed-over handle nick, and chips to inner rim, which would hold a lid.
