Rare Half-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jug, Stamped "J. REMMEY. / MANHATTAN-WELLS / NEW-YORK.", early 19th century, ovoid jug with profusely-tooled spout, impressed with the maker's mark of John Remmey III at the shoulder, accented with brushed cobalt highlights. Handle terminals with heavy cobalt highlights with appealing cobalt splattering on reverse. Exceptional size and color. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Very nice condition with a shallow flake to top of spout and some light surface wear. H 9 1/2".
