Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Pheasant-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT", circa 1855, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-squared rim, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a pheasant with turned head, perched on a tree stump. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. One handle fully restored. A filled spot to end of opposite handle. Large area of restoration to left side of jar. Two minor colored flakes to shoulder on reverse. Exfoliation to underside. Chips and wear to interior of rim and along inner rim for lid.
