Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "WEST TROY, / N.Y. / POTTERY," New York State origin, circa 1875, large-sized, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with boldly slip-trailed floral spray, accented with dotted trails. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A 2" hairline on underside, continuing 5" up base. This hairline runs along a slightly-recessed area and occurred in-the-firing, visible as an in-the-firing surface separation on the interior. A 2 1/2" hairline on underside, continuing 4" up base. A 4 1/2" crack from rim on reverse. A small in-the-firing contact mark to right of decoration. Two minor rim nicks.
