Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Pheasant-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "WHITE'S UTICA", New York State origin, circa 1870, cylindrical jug with tooled shoulder, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a pheasant with turned head and long tail, perched on a tree stump, flanked by grasses. Brushed cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A 10" vertical crack on side of jug, descending from a small chip at shoulder. Three short in-the-firing separation lines at base on reverse. Wear to base. Minor spout chips.
