Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Pheasant-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "WHITE'S UTICA", New York State origin, circa 1870, cylindrical jug with tooled spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested pheasant with turned head and long tail, perched on a tree stump, flanked by shrubs. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Two horizontal lines in handle. Some in-the-firing clay residue to top edge of spout. Some fry to base of decoration. Two very minor, adjacent base chips. The weight of the jug indicates there are contents on the interior.
