Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Dated 1874, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'", PA origin, 1874, ovoid, bowl-shaped jar with tooled shoulder and squared rim, decorated around the shoulder with five cobalt spotted tulips, applied over slip-coated clay. Shoulder additionally decorated with the rare brushed cobalt date, "1874", underscored by curved dashes. Provenance: Consigned from the Eastern Shore of Maryland. An approximately 4 1/2" Y-shaped line from rim. Otherwise excellent condition. H 6 1/4" ; Diameter 8 7/8".
