Quart-Sized Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pitcher with Make-Do Tin Handle, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1835, thin-walled, ovoid pitcher with semi-rounded rim molding, the body decorated with three groups of brushed cobalt swags. Additional swag decoration flanking the spout. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Fitted with a large tin make-do handle with thumbrest, soldered through the pitcher's wall. A 3" Y-shaped hairline from rim on reverse, which includes a possibly reglued wedge at collar. A 1 3/8" flake to interior of rim, connecting to a small chip on exterior of rim and including a faint hairline to rim. A short, faint hairline on underside, forming an approximately 3 1/2" curved hairline extending from underside. A minor chip to base and some tiny in-the-firing nicks to underside at edge. H (excluding handle) 7".
