Unusual Six-Quart Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Dog Decoration, Stamped "BRADY & RYAN / ELLENVILLE, N.Y.", circa 1885, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a dog with turned head, reclining atop a stylized ground flanked by shrubs. A desirable Ellenville motif. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a long-term private collection. Large area of restoration to rim and shoulder on reverse, which has started to peel off, revealing a whitish restoration compound.
