Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt House Decoration, Stamped "A.O. WHITTEMORE / HAVANA, NY", circa 1870, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a house on stylized ground, flanked by two trees. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a long-term private collection. Some fry to cobalt. A 1 1/2" chip to one handle. A 1 1/8" base chip. A spider line on underside, with one line continuing 2" onto base on side of crock. Some exfoliation to reverse. Staining to surface. A minor chip to interior of rim.
