Small-Sized Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Decoration, probably Manhattan, NY, early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated with a brushed drape design on the front and reverse. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a fifty-year private collection. Heavy chipping to base. Numerous tiny rim chips. An approximately 5" crack from rim. Some wear to shoulder molding. In-the-firing mottling to clay. To short, horizontal in-the-firing lines at base, which are glazed over. H 8 1/8".
