Three-Quart Stoneware Jar with Incised Foliate Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with an incised and cobalt-highlighted stem bearing six rounded leaves. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a fifty-year private collection. Professional restoration to one handle. Professionally-restored rim chips. Spider line on underside, which continues a short distance up body of jar in three places. Some light wear to surface at midsection. H 9 1/4".
