Scarce Half-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "UNION POTTERY / NEWARK, N.J. / J. ZIPF, PROP'R", circa 1880, ovoid pitcher with flared collar and tall rim molding, the front decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a tulip with spotted blossom. Slip-trailed "1/2" to shoulder. Desirable size. Several shallow chips to interior of spout. A chip to exterior of spout. A thin 4" crack from rim on side of pitcher. A thin 2 1/2" crack from rim on reverse, descending from a chip. An in-the-firing iron ping to underside. H 8 1/2".
