Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Impressed Decoration, Stamped "COMMERAWS / STONEWARE / CORLEARS / HOOK / N. YORK", early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, and open loop handle, decorated on the front and reverse with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted drape-and-tassel motif. Front and reverse impressed with the cobalt-highlighted maker's mark, "COMMERAWS / STONEWARE / CORLEARS / HOOK / N. YORK". This example exhibits finer color than most Commeraw pieces from this period that we have seen, and also features the potter's complete maker's mark, impressed in a total of five lines on the front and reverse. Missing one handle. Heavy chipping to base. Thin cracks extending from underside to base area. A thin 5" crack from rim on reverse. A few other thin cracks to collar. A few minor rim chips.
