Extremely Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt House Scene, Stamped "M. WOODRUFF, / CORTLAND", New York State origin, circa 1867-1869, ovoid jar with applied lug handles and tooling to shoulder and rim, decorated with a brushed design of a house with stylized lawn, flanked by bushes, with a tree to the left. This jar is the only example of Cortland stoneware we have seen with a house decoration. Excellent condition with an in-the-firing contact mark to base of decoration, two small in-the-firing contact marks to reverse, and a tiny in-the-firing ping to rim.
