One-Gallon Vertical-Handled Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Spot Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, late 18th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and ribbed vertical handles. Decorated on the front and reverse with a large brushed cobalt spot and at the handle terminals with cobalt highlights. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a fifty-year private collection. Rim chips. A few small base chips. A minor, 3/8" in-the-firing separation to one lower handle terminal. Some very faint surface lines to exterior, not visible on interior. H 8 3/4".
