Rare Small-Sized Stoneware Jar, probably Manhattan origin, mid 18th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and semi-rounded rim, decorated in three places with an unusual design of overlapping draped brushwork. Brushed cobalt stripe to shoulder. Desirable size and form. Provenance: Property of a New York State collector. A reglued 2 3/4" section at rim, with two short, faint lines descending from it. Two small chips to interior of rim. Some light exfoliation to area near base. In-the-firing dryness to surface. A small, shallow base chip. An in-the-firing iron ping to midsection. H 8".
