Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Incised Floral Decoration, Stamped "ARMSTRONG & WENTWORTH / NORWICH", CT origin, circa 1814-1834, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with a large incised and cobalt-highlighted flowering plant motif. Reverse impressed with Armstrong & Wentworth maker's mark. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Underside with incised or post-firing carved notation, which reads "12 1/2". Provenance: Property of a New York State collector. In-the-firing contact mark below decoration. A shallow, 5/8" rim chip and other very small rim chips. A shallow, 3/4" chip to underside at edge. Some very minor chips to base area.
