Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Parrot Decoration, Stamped "F.B. NORTON & CO. / WORCESTER, MASS.", circa 1870, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a crested parrot with heavily-shaded body and spotted tail, perched on a leaf. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Some light exfoliation to surface. Three chips to interior of rim, the largest measuring 1 5/8". A small chip to exterior of rim. A thin 6" crack on underside, extending 4 1/4" up reverse, where it forms a long Y. A 3" x 1 1/8" in-the-firing base chip on reverse.
