Rare Glazed Redware Rundlet, Inscribed "BRANDY" and "E. Sheets / Philadelphia / June 1 1853", Philadelphia, PA origin, 1853, wheel-thrown rundlet with tooled banding, a faux cork at midsection, and pouring hole at one end. Incised on one end "BRANDY" above an impressed star". Opposite end incised in script, "E. Sheets / Philadelphia / June 1 1853". Composed of unusual scroddled clay with heavy, clear lead glaze. Relatively few redware objects are known with direct references to the city of Philadelphia. A glazed-over 1 1/4" Y-shaped clay separation at base, which occurred in the firing. One rim chip. H 5 3/4".
