Scarce Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Chicken Pecking Corn Decoration, Stamped "C. VAUPEL / 11 UNION AVE / WILLIAMSBURGH N.Y", circa 1880, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a chicken pecking kernels of corn from a stylized ground, flanked by tall grass. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: Robert Meltzer Collection. Excellent condition with a chip to interior and exterior of rim.
