Large-Sized Stoneware Match Safe with Eagle Motif, Marked "AMERICAN BREW. CO. / ROCHESTER, N.Y.", attributed to the Whites Pottery, Utica, NY, late 19th century, decorated on the front and reverse with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted design of a flying eagle within a shield, below the advertising, "AMERICAN / BREW. CO. / ROCHESTER, / N.Y.". Provenance: Robert Meltzer Collection. Excellent overall condition with a small in-the-firing chip to underside and a few very short, minor lines, which remain in the surface and occurred during the firing. H 5".
