Stoneware Canning Jar with Wheeling, WV Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, tapered jar with rounded "wax sealer" rim, featuring the stenciled cobalt advertising, "JOHN F. THOMPSON JR. / DEALER IN STAPLE / & / FANCY / GROCERIES. / WHEELING. W. VA.". Freehand stripes to shoulder and base. Several chips to interior of rim and inner wax sealer rim. A spot of glazed-over kiln residue on reverse. H 10".
