Five-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT", circa 1855, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed floral spray accented with dotted trails. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: Robert Meltzer Collection. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with two very faint surface lines on underside, not visible on the interior and likely in-the-firing, as well as some water glass staining to interior.
