Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Impressed Heart Decoration, probably Morgan and van Wickle, Old Bridge, NJ, early 19th century, ovoid jug with heavily-tooled spout, decorated with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted design of four hearts surrounded by a scalloped border. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Desirable early motif, used at the Old Bridge, NJ pottery of James Morgan, Jr. and Judge Jacob van Wickle as well as at the Troy, NY pottery of Josiah Chapman. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. A small chip to top of spout. Two in-the-firing flakes to front. A 1 3/4" flake to upper handle terminal.
