Scarce One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Impressed Floral Decoration, attributed to Xerxes Price, Sayreville, NJ, early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, flared collar, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with impressed tulip medallion. Dark slip highlights, either cobalt or manganese, to impressed decoration and handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. A spider crack emanating from base on side of jar, with a thin line extending off from it below impressed tulip design on one side. A few iron pings to surface. Some in-the-firing dryness to surface. H 9 1/4".
