One-Gallon Stoneware Cake Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Philip Kabis, Shirleysburg, PA, circa 1870, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a distinctive cobalt floral motif over slip-coated clay. Inscribed with a cobalt "1" under each handle. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Two chips to exterior of rim. A minor base chip and minuscule base nick. A tight Y-shaped line extending downward from shoulder and 4" onto underside of crock.
