Rare One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Cake Crock with Cobalt Flying Bird Decoration, Stamped "D.P. HOBART Agent / Williamsport, Pa," circa 1880, short, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and applied handles, the front decorated with a finely-brushed design of a flying bird. The decorator carved a small spot into the clay to represent the bird's eye. Excellent form and decoration with rare maker's mark. Rim chips. Light wear to both handles. Otherwise excellent condition.
