Rare Eight-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "HALL & THOMAS / SPRINGFIELD, OH.", mid 19th century, large-sized, ovoid cooler featuring a wide-mouthed jug form and open handles, decorated on the front and reverse with two different brushed tulip motifs, applied over a slip-coated surface. Front additionally brushed with the number "8". Impressed with Hall & Thomas maker's mark on front and reverse. Brushed cobalt highlights to upper handle terminals and maker's marks. Excellent form and size. Bunghole lost during the firing. Some in-the-firing chipping to base. H 22 1/2".
