Scarce Four-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler with Profuse Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Henry H. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1835, cylindrical cooler with tapered shoulder, squared rim, circular bunghole, and oversized lug handles. Front of cooler lavishly-decorated with a large two-stemmed plant bearing leaves and nine fan-shaped blossoms. Reverse with two-stemmed daisy plant decoration. Additional daisy garland decoration under each handle. Cobalt wavy line around shoulder. Circular cobalt highlight surrounding bunghole. Excellent form and decoration. An in-the-firing contact mark to front. Some minuscule nicks to interior edge of bunghole. A shallow chip on exterior of rim and a shallow chip on interior of rim. A tight crack extending across underside and onto base of cooler, where it forms a long, very thin horizontal line with some short lines extending off from it. H 18".
