Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Impressed Fish Decoration, attributed to Jonathan Fenton, Boston, MA, late 18th century, finely-potted, ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded spout, decorated with an impressed design of a well-detailed fish. The fish motif is lightly-highlighted in a dark, blackish slip, possibly a mixture of cobalt and iron. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Classic Fenton form and decoration. Professional restoration to section of spout and neck. Otherwise excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 15 1/4".
