Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BURGER / ROCHESTER", New York State origin, circa 1860, cylindrical jar with flared collar and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a flowering plant with shaded leaves. Slip-trailed cobalt "2." to shoulder. Light cobalt highlight to maker's mark. A small chip to one handle. A minor nick to base. A 2 3/8" sliver-shaped chip on top of rim with a tight 3 1/2" crack descending from it and a 7/8" line extending from it along top of rim. A smooth rim chip on reverse, probably in-the-firing.
