Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "RIEDINGER & CAIRE / POUGHKEEPSIE-NY", circa 1870, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a long-tailed bird perched on a stump flanked by shrubs and grasses. Strong decoration with excellent color. Provenance: David Musser Collection. Some scratches to cobalt. A minor flake to left handle. A salt drip to right handle. Some light wear to front. Two in-the-firing burns at bottom edge on front. A chip and minor nick on interior of rim. A small chip to exterior of rim. Water glass residue to interior.
