Two Wilkes County, North Carolina Stoneware Jugs, possibly J.W. Carpenter, fourth quarter 19th century, an ovoid, salt-glazed example and an alkaline-glazed example with two flattened sides. Both in excellent, essentially as-made conditon. Salt-glazed example with three in-the-firing contact marks to base and underside. H (of alkaline-glazed jug) 9 1/2".
