Two Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jars, probably South Carolina origin, third quarter 19th century, an ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, thin rim, and applied lug handles accented with melted glass, the surface covered in a dark-green alkaline glaze; paired with a rotund jar with angled rim molding and applied lug handles, the surface covered in a greenish alkaline glaze, possibly Thomas Owensby. Taller jar with a 2 1/4" chipped section to rim as well as shallow chipping to one handle, a base chip, and some traces of old pink paint to surface. Shorter jar with a 1 3/8" handle chip, minor rim wear, some circumferential surface wear, and raised iron deposits throughout. H (of taller jar) 14 1/2".
