Rare Molded Yellowware Teapot, Stamped "AMERICAN POTTERY CO. / JERSEY, CITY.", circa 1838-1845, with relief floral decorated throughout and twig-form handle. Lid with relief floral decoration and berry-form finial. Underside impressed with American Pottery Co. maker's mark. The mold for this elegant piece was designed by noted modeler, Daniel Greatbach, who trained in Staffordshire, England and was involved at several pottery establishments in America. A similar example resides in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan, NY. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, which descended in the family of the consignor. Excellent condition with a minor in-the-firing separation along seam line, not visible on interior. H (to top of handle) 3 3/4".
