Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1840, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, profusely-decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed flowering plant design featuring long, dotted trails emanating from the blossoms. Brushed cobalt highlights to the handle terminals. Wonderful decoration with excellent color. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with an in-the-firing contact mark to shoulder and a small, glazed-over base chip, which occurred in the firing.
