Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Impressed Decoration, Stamped "S.AMBOY.N.JERSY / WARNE & LETTs 1807 / LIBERTY FOREV", Thomas Warne and Joshua Letts, South Amboy, NJ, 1807, ovoid jug with heavily-tooled spout, decorated with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted "clamshell" design below the impressed inscription, "LIBERTY FOREV", beside a pointing finger. The maker's mark of partners, Thomas Warne and Joshua Letts, appears above. Examples of Warne & Letts stoneware bearing their iconic "LIBERTY FOREV" stamp are considered highly-prized, historically-significant works. Restored handle. Flakes to surface. Large, recessed in-the-firing contact mark to front. In-the-firing dryness to reverse. A small in-the-firing chip to bottom edge.
